Geocaching: It was really fun (while the weather was still warm) to log a couple caches here in Heber! Melissa and I looked around for a couple caches to check out the whole geocaching world. It is pretty fun and we were successful in finding a couple too!
Our first success! No swag but still exciting to find
We found this one just Zeyta and I around Walmart. She found a little pipe cleaner and was super happy about it, lol. It's kinda fun just finding the little containers and signing the log, but the "treasure" makes it extra exciting.
After our success in Heber I planned a Valentine's Date geocaching around Molly's house along the Jordan River Trail. We found 3 chache's and had a really nice walk along the river. We ate at texas roadhouse first for lunch then spent about an hour walking and searching. It was a really nice day.
On the Farm: Satin had her Baby! Since I wrote last we bought a 4 year old Jersey (with horns - never again) who was apparently 3 weeks from calving. She did great calving a little heifer who I am calling Velvet but the rest of the family all have their own names so we'll see what sticks.
Little Velvet was born on Feb. 14th so a cute little Valentine's baby! She had some trouble nursing for the 1st 24 hours of so but is now getting super chubby and is drinking too much milk, we are getting under a gallon now and she is only 2 weeks!
Satin has calmed down quite a bit and she will come to the milking barn if I shake a bucket of grain. She holds pretty still but usually doesn't let down much for me, which isn't a problem since we were still getting about a gallon and a half. We milked twice a day for about a week and then dropped to once a day with the calf still on her 24/7. That may change soon if she starts drinking all our milk.
The other cows hanging out meeting the new arrival. We were a little worried that Olivia would try to nurse off of Satin but she hasn't tried yet so that's a relief. Olivia is being super friendly and nice with us and with her new little friend.
Watching the new baby! I came out right after she was born, Velvet was still soaking wet and there was a bunch of afterbirth still coming out of Satin. I'm a little sad I missed the birth but mostly just glad everything went so well.
The Mellars are loving their new farm life! They are super helpful with the animals and got to help Velvet have her first meal. Kiya is my chicken helper - she lets them out and locks them in every day, and the boys throw hay to the cows and were carrying buckets of water to Satin for the week that we had her and Velvet separated from the other cows.
Wrestling tournament: Blain, Damian and Darius had their first competitive wrestling tournament this past weekend. I could only stay for Blain's first 3 matches then I was off to Cali for a weekend with my sisters and Momma! But Blain did great for his first time in a real tournament and even placed 3rd (with bronze medals!!) in his weight bracket.
Blain did so great wrestling against those tough boys!
What a stud!
Blain wrestled freestyle for the first time and also folkstyle whichis what he's been doing since kindergarten. Love those awesome medals!!
FamilyUpdates!
Avenlea: This cutie pie is doing really well in her preschool at Daniels Canyon Elementary. She gets ready pretty independently and is very particualr about what she wears - preferring zeyta's clothes (literally the shirt on Zeyta's back) and asking to trade with her which Zeyta will usually agree to. Avenlea has been really into coloring. She has a special friend named Ike at her preschool who gave her a pink gel pen that she used up in about a week because she colored with it so much!
Avenlea is rarely seen inside the home wearing normal clothes. She most often has a pretty leotard on or some sort of dress up. She loves to play mommy's and babies with Zeyta and expecially loves playing with Darius when he gets home from school.
Avenlea will play her games occasionally but the intense gaming and puzzle making has subsided quite a bit. Some of her most requested foods are Ramen, bagels, and cereal. Avenlea loves playing bounce the soccer ball on the trampoline and I am thinking about putting her in a little soccer class this spring. And speaking of sports she is doing amazing at her Gymnastics. She is the tiniest one in her class and can be a little nervous at times but she does great. She is really close to doing a back roll by herself and she always keeps her legs straight and toes pointy in her handstands. Its really fun watching her practice on Thursdays.
Zeyta: Oh my little Zeyta Z. She loves to do a coloring app on my phone which is her greatest joy and also her biggest frustration when it comes time to turn it off. She loves playing magnets and legos and tagging along with her older siblings and cousins. Zeyta really enjoys going to Avenlea's classroom on days I volunteer. She plays right along with all the preschoolers, eats snack with them, and helps clean up.
Zeyta loves to eat meat! She will eat the meat out of any sandwich, requests ham and bacon for dinner, and eats a surprising amount of nuggets on a good day. Zeyta also really likes oatmeal, ramen for lunch, and spaghetti. Zeyta could eat cheese all day and when I make butter I feel like she snitches half a stick while I work! She also does a great job eating her veggies, bell peppers being some of her favorite.
Zeyta is still having a hard time being 2 and sometimes I feel like she is throwing tantrums all day! She is still getting really upset everytime the answer to something she wants in no. She runs to her room and cries, but usually after a minute and talking it out she will come out and be a happy girl, after physically wiping away her tears and saying "I'm a happy girl". And when she's happy she is SUPER happy and giggles and laughs. She is learning to use her words better and better every day and has adapted well to adding her 3 siblings to her room which she used to have to herself.
Zeyta is officially potty trained and I am LOVING having no diaper changes (during the day). She loves her sour patch kids potty treats and chants her "Big Girl Zeyta" song complete with hips swaying and fist swinging in the air!
Blain: What to say about Blain! He is reading like a champ and its cute to see the books he chooses, mostly Bernstein Bears and Dr. Seuss. He also does really well reading his verse in the Scriptures every night before bed. Blain is sure kept busy with all his activities! His month of karate is over now but wrestling has started back up again and he now does that 2 nights a week plus on optional tournament on the weekends! He is also continuing with his gymnastics once a week and we just got the schedule for his first meets which will be in June! I can't wait to see that cute boy compete!
Blain loves to draw action scenes where the good guys battle the bad guys. He's told me a couple times his friends say he "scribbles" but I know it's because his pictures are never standing still! There are swirls and whirls and zigs and zags all over his drawings to show how hard they were fighting. Blain still loves the color Blue and of course his Blue Blanket which he continues to sleep with every night. Sharing a bed with 2 of his sisters hasn't helped his tendency to talk for an hour or so every night while he is supposed to be falling asleep. Sometimes I will go in there and Chloe will plead with me to let Blain finish the story he is telling.
Blain makes himself peanut butter and nutella almost everyday for his after school snack. He eats his own weight in French toast and pancakes, and still will not eat cheerios or corn off the cob. Blain likes playing outside on the trampoline with Darius and Kiya and likes his little lego guys and mini pokemon figures. He is going through a fake smile phase so getting a natural looking smile is a challenge but he's still so cute I almost don't mind ;)
Chloe Rose: Chloe keeps herself busy practicing her piano everyday with lessons once a week and soccer practice twice a week in the rec center where its warm and dry. She runs really hard at practice and likes to show me how sweaty her shin guards get - reminds me of my own stinky shin guards when I used to play! Chloe packs her snow pants for school so she can build snowmen at school with her friends and is anxiously awaiting her birthday coming up!
Chloe is so helpful and we are truly blessed to have her as the oldest in our family. She helps pack snack bags when we are in a rush and helps finds boots and coats for her younger siblings. Chloe is so dilligent with her chores usually finishing all of hers before Blain or Avenlea have finished one. She loves crafting, sewing, and making gifts for others.
Chloe just recently started reading Diary of a Whimpy Kid books and she read the entire first book in one day! I couldn't believe it, she is on her 3rd one now and its so cute to hear her laughing while she reads. Chloe continues to love her carbs - rice, potatoes, pasta! and isn't picky except with meat which is usually a little bit of a struggle to get her to finish. She loves veggies as well but her favorite is still and might always be Ramen...
Nate and I are adjusting to having another family share our home but so far it's been a lot of fun. Its a blast listening to stories they come home from school with and reminiscing about when they were young. Nate has taken on a big role of helping those Mellars boys learn wrestling with going to their practices and helping them at home before the tournament. It's gonna be a fun season together! Kiya has been awesome helping with the animals - especially the chickens. They don't get left out with Kiya on the job! Its so fun to have Melissa to talk to throughout the day and she is so helpful in tons of ways that I can't begin to describe! We are so lucky to have them sharing all their love and laughter with us everyday!!
Good looking household!!
