Life in the Slow Lane

Finishing the Floor: Nate has a goal to try and complete one project per month either on the house or the farm. He finished the kitchen and it looks really good! He's currently working on the hallway and then the living room. He's run into a couple different floor types so that's slowed him down a bit but it sure is nice to think it'll be done soon!
Maybe another reason the floor is taking longer than anticipated ;) The oven also sustained a leak while moving it out and in so we've had to keep the gas turned off and the oven pushed out so we have access to the shut off valve. I send Blain in behind the oven (where Nate and Zeyta are sitting) to turn on the gas when I need to cook and then back again to turn it off when I'm done. Little Man of the House!

Parent Teacher Conferences: It was nice meeting with Chloe and Blain's teachers to see how they are doing in school this past week. Love these cute smarty pants!
Little Brainiac just like his Dad. We had parent teacher conferences or Student Led Conferences as they are called now on Thursday for Blain with his teacher Mrs. Jimenez. She said his handwriting has improved a bunch and he does very well participating in class and learning his letters and sight words. His goal for this next term is to learn adding up to 12! He scored way above average on his middle of the year tests and it's fun to see his improvement from the beginning of the year. He doesn't show much interest in school so it's a relief when you can see he is learning!
Ballerina Chloe in her fun skirt from Em and Ted on her "point shoes". Chloe also got glowing reviews from her teachers at parent teacher conference. She has passed off all her sight words for first grade and even passed off the ones for second grade and half of third! She is learning fractions in spanish and sings lots of spanish songs. Chloe continues to be in the 90th percentile in the nation for her testing and we are so proud of all the effort she puts into her schooling!

Play Time: A little bit of how we've been passing our leisure time.
The Chloe Show! Chloe put on a little show (with some impromptu Blain and Avenlea scenes) where she would change into different costumes and dance or do a little skit. Cute video that goes along with this show!
Princesses on Parade! Avenlea has been really loving dressing up and Zeyta goes along with it too sometimes! Avenlea is usually Sleeping Beauty (or princess peach but same costume ;) and Zeyta always reaches for her Belle dress. Love these little princesses.
Cinderella - Zeyta calls Avenlea "uh - lell - uh" when she is dressed up as Cinderella. Melissa gave us Kiya's old dress up dresses a while back and they are BEAUTIFUL and sure getting a lot of use in this house of 3 girls!
Friday night Movie Night! So cute all lined up with their popcorn bowls.
Baby Doll Love - Zeyta is really into baby dolls right now, she carries them around 2 at a time, wraps them in blankets, pats them, gives them bottles, and lots of hugs and kisses. It's super adorable.
Zeyta also loves her legos from Santa and dumping out all the bags of new Christmas toys (ponies, pokemon figures, superheroes, princesses). She probably plays with Chloe's snap on dress princesses more than anyone right now and is even starting to play with the barbie dolls. Little Girly Girl.
How cute is that little girl in that fuzzy hat? She always takes her beanie off when we play outside so when I saw this little hat with a built in scarf on sale for 1$ I had to get it. She can't take it off and it's really soft and warm.
Nate took Blain Ice fishing for the first time today! I'm so nervous because of the whole being on top of a frozen lake that could crack or melt or break at anytime. Nate says its really safe but I'm still anxious about it. I made him run through every scenario and how he would save Blain and himself. Blain was so excited to go and it gave Nate a chance to stock his new tackle box that he got for Christmas. Good luck Boys!

Beef Processing: Theron, Molly and Jonny all came over 2 Thursdays ago and we all worked on putting up the beef. The boys broke the meat into smaller cuts, Molly was in charge of grinding, and I vacuum sealed the meat as it was ready. What a BIG job. Nate made a really nice dinner for us all before getting started around 5 and all five of us worked until about midnight.
Molly working on the grinding as well as tending little Philip
 Good Job Guys!
