Hunting: Nate, Jonny and Sam all went Spike Elk hunting opening weekend. They didn't get anything opening day but Nate says it was really fun sitting around the campfire laughing and talking, hiking around the mountains, and best of all Not Hunting Alone! Nate is still going out for the next 2 weeks, hope he gets something!

Is that an Elk??
The Guys before heading out to the mountain
Finishing up the Pigs: Nate worked really hard getting his smoker built but it ended up still needing a couple tweaks to get it running, so after a small grease fire and some burnt hams, Molly and I took the meat down to Ted's to use his smoker. We smoked the hams, bacon and Brotworst in batches which took all day but the end result is DELICIOUS! I then took my meat home and for the next 7 hours (hello 3AM) I sliced and bagged up the ham and bacon. I've also canned up the pork stock, making 14 quarts of stock from the bones of two pigs plus about 3 more quarts that I froze because I didn't want to run another batch in the canner for just 3 quarts. I'm so happy that everything is done and ready for the next year of yummy home raised pork!
Me with my jars of stock
Hello Bacon! All piled up ready to be weighed and bagged
Our pig in the "new to us" freezer that we had to buy becasue our chest freezer is still pretty full
The Garden: The garden is about ready to put to bed for the winter. All the delicate plants have frozen (early october). I harvested our potatoes with some baby help, and will pick the rest of our beets when I get around to it this week. I planted some lettuce and spinach with is growing pretty well but our irrigation water is turned off now so watering may or may not happen. We'll see. The kale still looks good but I really want to till everything and fertilize so I might just have to sacrifice the kale :(
Yummy potatoes! I am going to put them in big baskets or containers next year
We took our potato harvest down to Em's for dinner with Dad and Peggy. The purple potatoes are really cool and bright purple in the middle! They were both delicious.
Uncle Sammy and Grandma and Grandpa Moyeda: It was really fun spending the day with Sam before he went out hunting with Nate. Grandma and Grandpa came to Utah for a funeral but came over sunday night for dinner. It was great getting to see family we don't get to see all the time:)
