Pool time! The would be sheep watering pail has turned into a mini swimming pool that they take turns playing in. It's been up to the 70's so some legitimately warmish days for playing in the water, but still nothing hot and the warmth doesn't stay too long
Little Zeyta enjoying some sunshine
Zeyta caught a pretty bad bug that she has since recovered from but now has a boogy nose which isn't helping her get to sleep because she can't breath through her nose. She had high fevers for about 4 days, then after those passed she was so tired all the time! She would only be awake for about an hour at a time then sleep and sleep. She never cuddles like in the picture but she fell asleep on me more than once, poor little thing. But she is thankfully doing better and back to her normal happy self during the day, crawling around, growling at us, and eating all her food!
We had a ward fiesta last week that was lots of fun! They taught the kids the chicken dance and Macarena which was really cute to watch. Afterwards they got to do a piƱata and collect some yummy candy!
Playing in Daddy's boots never gets old
Helping put new straw in the chicken coop
Zeyta checking out the new hay loft over the pig pen
Beautiful Baby!
Flowers are blooming all over! Blain gets really excited to show me when he finds new flowers that have opened
Egg Overload! The eggs haven't been selling as much at Nate's work so we are up to our ears in eggs. I hard boiled 110 eggs for the pigs and still had the basket on the left to go through as well as eggs from that day. The piggies were eating well! I also made mozzarella cheese so they got the whey from that as well! Spoiled little piggies!
Avenlea loves the pigs! She asks to go out there every time we go outside. She laughs and laughs when they come up to her and likes to throw handfuls of straw into their pen. The chicken in the picture was out on one of their last days free ranging for a while. We lost 3 chickens to an unknown predator during the past 3 days. It's getting them during the day and only takes one at a time that we can tell. We think it might be a hawk because on one of their bodies we found a really cool looking feather that Blain went crazy for! We are keeping them in the run until we set a few traps to make sure it's nothing on the ground. Then if we catch nothing I'm not sure what we'll do because we don't have a good way to keep them safe from aerial attacks. I don't want to keep them "cooped up" but I also don't want to keep losing our egg layers!
First flower on my tomato plants!! I've never had a flower on any of my starts before putting them in the ground s thins makes me very hopeful that we will get some good ripe tomatoes this year! The forecast keeps predicting freezing temperatures at night so I'm too afraid to plant them in the garden but we are leaving to go to Cali in 2 weeks so they have to be in the ground by then... I've been keeping them all day and night on the porch and then bring them in on freezing nights (2 so far). Hope it gets warm fast!
The strawberries look so good this year! I fertilized them yesterday and they have lots of flowers!
Grape vines looking pretty good as well!
Is that a tiny grape cluster??
I trellised the peas!
And finally a purple potato sprout!
Onions on the rights, kale on the left, and broccoli behind
The yellow? potatoes growing really well!
My comfry came back! I want to split it this year if it grows well and start a little raised bed in the garden for it so I can take the leaves for fertilizer for the garden easily
plums on the wild plum trees!
Nate building the pig feeder - it took him all day Saturday but he finished in enough time to move the pigs last night. Good job Little Honey!
Piggies all moved into their new enclosure! They were easy enough to move into their new home last night and had a blast running around, sniffing and eating the greens, and playing in the fresh straw.
They figured out the waterer pretty fast
But last I checked they haven't caught on to the feed box yet. I have to open the flaps for them but after I do they go right for the food, not caring if the door sits on their head. Nate needs to make a small adjustment because they can lift the lid up so that it stays open which is defeating the purpose of the design. But we are hopeful they will figure it out and grow well and enjoy their new home!
