Zeyta Elizabeth

Zeyta's Birth and first couple days: My due date was June 17th but that came and went (as usual) so the morning of the 19th we drove to Heber hospital to be induced and meet our new baby! My nurse was really nice and very attentive. We got there, changed into my beautiful hospital gown, started an IV and had pitocin running by 8 AM. The contractions started pretty quickly and by 10 I had progressed from a 3 to a 4.

Dr. Cook came in at that point and, because the contractions were still very mild and little Zeyta was having some decels after each contraction, I opted to get my water broken sooner rather than later. Now I don't know why when I had my water broken the first time it was so awful, but this time it felt little different than getting checked. So I had my water broken and then walked around for a while as the contractions got steadily stronger and closer together. They had this awesome portable monitoring unit that I wore around my shoulder that allowed me to walk around and still have them watch baby and my contractions. It was about 1 pm and Dr. Cook came in to check on me again. I was a 6 and the contractions were really strong so I decided to get my epidural then. It was in place and working by about 1:30 and it was the best epidural I've had. I was able to move my legs and still feel pressure so I knew when it was time to push, which I've never been able to really feel before.

After the epidural was placed I started progressing really fast. She checked me about 20 minutes after and I was an 8. Nate had to take a bathroom break and left the room, which made me a little nervous. I kept feeling like I really had to "pee" despite the catheter being in, as well as that "other" urge that means it's time to push. I had mom call Nate and tell him to get back in the room, the nurse checked me again and I was complete. Dr. Cook came in and said we could wait 1/2 hour or so for things to progress a little more on their own or do a practice push to see how things went. He had my nurse help with the practice push and She told me "OK STOP!" about halfway through my count of 10. The baby was on it's way! They set up the delivery table, waited for a contraction, and 2 pushes later Little Zeyta Elizabeth was born! We decided on the name pretty quickly after she was born but I ended up choosing the spelling because we couldn't agree.

They put her right on my abdomen and Nate was able to cut the cord. Dr. Cook also showed him the placenta, water sac and how baby had been connected while in my tummy. He also showed us some calcifications on the placenta which he thought was the reason for her small size despite being 2 days late. She weighed in at 6 lbs 6 oz and 18inches long. She was born at 1421 (2:21 pm). I was able to do skin to skin and she was really hungry right away. She is a good little eater and sleeps lots and lots.

We had lots of family come for the big day including lots of family from California (Dad and Peggy, Chelsea, Shamene and Quinten, Mom and Chris) and Wendy is coming with her family tomorrow! Em was so nice to let my kiddos stay with her Thursday night through Saturday when we came home. Chloe, Blain and Avenlea love their new baby sister and have all taken turns holding and loving her. We were able to leave the hospital almost exactly 24 hours after she was born. We are looking forward to getting to know her, seeing her cute face everyday, and enjoying our new family of 6!
