Spring Surprises

With the weather so nice this past week we have been out working on the farm everyday after Nate gets home from work, playing outside, and enjoying all the newness that spring provides! Here is a little bit of the past week or so.
This little Nut I found basking in the sun right in the doorway. What a cutie.
I took Blain, Avenlea and Zeyta to the park for a picnic lunch and of course Poke stops for Blain. They had a really good time climbing the stairs, going across the monkey bars, and racing down the double slides.
Or should we say triple slides
Chloe got a few more presents in the mail including a pair of real Ballerina slippers. She is so cute in her best ballerina pose!
Avenlea bringing the chickens (and kitties) the scrap bucket
Avenlea was spotlight in Primary and she told them she wanted to be a cowgirl when she grows up and that her favorite animals are cows (Bella). She has been so good and even earned the Reverence Award 2 weeks ago which is HUGE considering how bad she would cry when we first started taking her to sunbeams. Love this sweet cowgirl!
I can't believe I found SPINACH growing in the garden with no protection from the winter, just feet and feet of snow. With all the work Nate and I have done in the garden it was a little challenging not burying or rototillering them to death, but I think they will survive!
Fertilizer! I had done 2 big wheel barrows full of manure before Nate came to my rescue and got out the tractor to haul enough manure for the entire garden! I was mid scoop when I looked up and saw Zeyta ready to help. She loves being in the barnyard and pointing at the cows and chickens.
I finally got to watch Chloe at her Hip Hop Class. This is her practicing her worms.
Library for St. Patricks Day. I was surprised to see Avenlea go up and sit next to Miss Sally for the singing and fun during story time. She is really warming up to people these days giving all her Grandparents hugs and staying with her teacher in primary!
We preg checked Bella again and Nate is pretty sure he felt the baby's head so we will continue to play the waiting game!
Kitties and Chickens enjoying their treats! We now have a Broody hen and separated the "good from the bad" to collect eggs from. We will let them lay for a couple days then move the mommy to be to the broody area with hopefully a dozen eggs or so. That would be so fun to get more chicks!!
Avenlea helping Daddy with his various tractor endeavors! Nate has been so nice to pause all the projects he has lined up to help me with mine. Someday I'll learn to use that Beast and then we can multi task a little better. I will admit it is nice to be working together on projects rather than him doing all the work and me baby tending. The kiddos have been pretty good playing together and staying out of trouble - minus the little mishap of a broken oil line caused by someone walking on the hood of the tractor - but Nate was able to fix it relatively quickly and get back on track with no major damage done.
Nate pulled out the annoying trees that are right next to the garden, which had shaded the garden until about noon all summer these past couple years. The area looks so big and spacious and I'm already planning out the raised beds I want to put in the space where the trees were. We fertilized, roto tilled, and covered the garden in about 6 inches of wood chips so I really hope we have an awesome crop this year! Nate and I decided that if the garden fails again after all this work we're gonna call it defeat and sell the farm, LOL.
St. Patty's Day dinner of corned beef and cabbage, complete with green rolls (those darn leprechauns) and green Hawaiian punch
Avenlea enjoying her green home made roll!
Zeyta keeping her self entertained with a soda bottle she found along the fence. She was so good while we were working on all the various farm chores. She loves being outside and looks super cute in the tiny muck boots I found for her at savers! She calls them "boats" and requests to wear them whenever we go outside. We decided she definitely needs socks with those boots because she had the sweatiest little feet when we took them off the other day!
Tree Pruning Time! I pruned the little fruit trees a couple days ago and Nate used the tractor bucket to prune the big apple tree which I thought was genius - no climbing up the tree and getting scratched and he could get all the way to the top!
I also found 3 green onions in the garden when I was getting ready to till it up. I haven't planted green onions since the first garden in this house so I'm not quite sure where they came from, but it looks great and will make a good addition to dinner in the near future :)
Poor Bella is probably so tired of us looking at her backside and udder, but she still looks floppy (but not springy...) and has no more signs of infection since we gave her the dry cow treatment over a month ago. We can't wait to meet your baby Bella! In other cow news they have broken into the hay storage area and now have free access to hay until Nate fixes the gate and stall. It is kinda nice to not have to go out and throw hay, but they are going through what was supposed to last 2 more months pretty quick so the repaired gate will be a good thing.
