End of August

Play Time: Even with it raining almost every night we are still having pretty nice days. We play outside for most of the morning, and I even rode all 3 kiddos in the bike trailer to the park - something I probably won't do again unless Chloe is riding a bike with me. They were just a little heavy to pull up the slight incline all the way home. But they all play pretty nicely together which is fun to watch.

Avenlea in her swing - it's crazy to think Blain used to swing in that swing. I put him in it today and he looked GIANT. I could barely get him in or out.
Blain giving Avenlea a big push - they have been interacting a lot more and Blain likes to play with her on his own sometimes. A couple days ago he was following her around for a good 45 minutes, copying everything she did and it was cracking both of them up.
"yas das purpis" is what it sounds like anyway. Chloe likes to give Avenlea big pushes too. She always says the same thing to her, although even after asking her to repeat it I can't make out what she's saying.
My little heart breaker - the basketball hoop from grandma is in the background. He got it for his brithday and unfortunately doesn't play with it much... in the traditional way. He pushes it over and uses it to do "american ninja warrior" tricks like sliding, balancing, and crawling through the hole. He may not be too into sports but he sure is creative!

Around the Farm: The work has seemed to double with the addition of the pigs and removing the roosters to their own tractor. I'd take the extra work any day though for the sense of security I have walking through the barnyard with the kids and raising our own meat.
Sunset puffs herself up big as possible whenever she sees anyone. "Sunset thinks she's so tough" - I was laughing at sunset one day and Chloe asked why. That was my answer and now Chloe always says that about Sunset when she sees her get all big and puffy. The only good thing about her sitting on the eggs is she still lays everyday and I'm thinking if this lasts til winter we won't have to deal with cracked eggs due to them expanding when they freeze. They stay nice and warm under her.
My basket of eggs!! We now have 8 layers (getting about 6 per day) and I think Syrie may have a secret nest over the fence in the alfalfa field next door. We saw her over there twice today and she was making quite a bit of noise. And speaking of secret nests, I finally found Baby Mamma's nest with no less than 17 eggs in it!!! I followed her into the brush next to the bedroom windows and there is was, actually in plain sight if you look out Chloe and Blain's window. But we let the babies "find" the nest and collect the eggs. I hard boiled those eggs and fed them to the pigs since we already had more than 2 dozen and I didn't feel like checking to see if there were any bad ones.
Growing pigs - I did a little measuring with my hand last night and the bigger one was 4 hand lengths long and about the same around. So if I calculated it right they should be around 80 pounds now. It's hard to notice their growth when I see them so much so I had Em tell me what she thought yesterday and she thinks they look bigger. The boy is getting pretty pushy so we might need to start feeding them separately but we'll keep watching for a bit. I am feeding them around 4 lbs each per day plus kitchen/garden scraps and occasionally some eggs if I'm going to cook some up anyways and we have lots of extras.

I've been hearing lots of thumping around in the milk barn lately and one night when Nate went out to feed the pigs he saw a raccoon climbing up the wall into the rafters. He got out Sam's gun to try and get rid of it but it was gone. We are gonna get a live trap soon if we can. I don't like the idea of a raccoon living in the barn right next to our chickens.

Sleepover with Marie: We have been trying to have little Marie stay over for a while now so when Em came up yesterday I offered to keep her overnight and bring her back the following evening. It's been fun having her here and getting to have a full day with Marie.

Lunch time after our search for ripe plums and taking turns on the swing. I gotta say I'm super proud of myself right now. Blain, Marie, and Avenlea are all napping at the same time and Chloe is coloring quietly at the Elmo table, hence I can sit here and do a little update. I didn't think it would happen but I sure am happy about it!
