Burn Unit

Today was my first day at the Vernaza hospital. I was able to go to the burn unit and watch a skin graft surgery as well as a "cleaning". The graft was surprisingly simple. They got the new skin out of a little cup and placed it over the area that needed it, spread it out, and taped it on. I really didn't know what to expect but I thought it would be a little more involved. The cleansing just looked painful. They took scalpels and scraped off all the dead skin, and cauterized the skin after wards to stop the bleeding. Good thing I have a strong stomach. It was interesting but I don't think I'd like to be in there shoes, ever.

I again realized how nice it is to have a washer and dryer at home. I did my laundry in the sink again. Wringing out the water is a chore in itself, not to mention the fact you have to wait at least 24 hours for your clothes to dry after wards. I was sweating by the time I was done.
