Happy Halloween with the California Cousins

This post will mostly be about our little trip down to Valencia for Halloween and to meet some of our newest family members, but first here is some of what happened the second half of October

Hunting Success: Nate got both and elk and a deer this year! It was so nice having him only go out on opening day for both hunts. And so far the meat has been super yummy. I've put it in burritos, stir fry, and a yummy homemade soup!
 Good Job getting a buck!

Zeyta 4 months! My little Zeyta turned 4 months old and had her appointment back on the 18th of October. She is 13lb 5 oz (29th percentile) and 24.5 inches (49th percentile). She can roll over, sit in her bumbo, laugh and giggle, sleeps 10 hours at night, and is sooo cute I can't stand it. She is a beautiful and wonderfully easy baby. If only all babies were like this... Dr. Larson has said it's ok to start solids now so I foresee a lot of applesauce and hopefully home made baby food in her future :)
Zeyta trying out some oatmeal cereal for her first solids! I looked up a site that shows how to make homemade baby cereal so I have a nice stash in the cupboard now thanks to my magic bullet!
Bye Bye Chicken beards: The two maran (or barred rock I can't tell) roosters were named little and big chicken beard this year, and now they are no more. The biggest one showed lots of aggression (especially toward Avenlea) and the little one had his moments too. So now we have one handsome Americauna rooster who is somewhere in the middle of the pecking order, but I think he will rise to the top in no time as he's the only rooster left ;)
Blain had been eyeing those rooster tail feathers so we cleaned and saved some for him on butchering day. It took us about 3 hours to do the 2 chickens because we decided to skin rather than pluck, just to see how it went. We will be plucking in the future if we can get the plucker working again. Skinning took too long and was kind of difficult to keep clean and feather free.
Zeyta was so good on butchering day. She hung out in her bouncer and took a long nap later on so we were able to finish by noon and I was able to get some sleep before going into work. She loves sitting in her bouncer outside and looking around at everything.

Pumpkin carving time: We have lots of pumpkins this year from fieldtrips, a little house pumpkin patch in Orem, and 3 of our homegrown pumpkins from the garden! I also picked the last of the spaghetti squash which all look pretty good, even if they are a tad small.

We let the kids draw their designs again this year. Avenlea did some super cute scribbles

Trip to California: We packed up the car Wednesday and headed out after Chloe got home from school around noon. It took us 12 hours to make it to Momma's house but the ride went pretty smoothly. Zeyta was really good and only got really fussy around bedtime when we woke her up getting gas. Obviously leaving so late wasn't ideal but we made it in one piece and Mom and Chris were nice enough to give up their room so we could fit comfortably at their house in one room. It was such a fun and relaxing trip!
Avenlea helping pack up the car. I emptied out their 72 hour kits and used the backpacks as luggage. It worked out really well and the kits are all now back in their bags so the contents don't get scattered everywhere and lost
We stopped for dinner in Mesquite at the same McDonalds that we once spent 8 hours in. This one was a quick 30 minute stop but they loved the playtime after being in the car for 5 hours
All the grandparents spent lots of time reading books to all those cute kids. Grandma Janice reading Bernstein Bears to Chloe and Zeyta
Dad reading to Blain and Gabriel
Holding baby Gabriel for the first time!!

 Cutie babies
 Zeyta and Grandpa

Halloween Day and Night: Mom put on a little Halloween Party before trick or treating. They ate donuts off a string and bobbed for apples before eating a yummy chili dinner and heading out for Trick or Treating!
Getting ready to race to the donuts
 Good Job Avenlea
4 fairies, an alien and an astronaut
Blain loved his shiny boots and the fact that daddy made shiny space boots too. We wrapped his old muck boots in aluminum foil tape - which actually did not hold up very well during trick or treating - but they sure look cool!
Fairy Zeyta and Rainbow Dash my little pony. Yuv looked awesome in her rainbow eyelashes!!
Poor Chels still pregnant on Halloween but making the best of it with a cute belly costume- she was 11 days late as of Halloween but is in labor today!! Just waiting for the news on how everything went and if its a boy or girl!! I'm sad I didn't get to meet her baby but those little ones have a mind of their own...
Finding the good houses to knock at - the whole first street we went to had dark houses but the kids were so good and didn't get discouraged. They ended up with full pumpkins of candy so it all ended well after getting past that first cul-de-sac
Mommy and her baby fairy - I ended up carrying all 3 wands that the babies were supposed to be carrying. All well, thats just part of being a mom I guess!
 Blain with his yummy candy!
Avenlea making a sticky mess with her tootsie pop. She was so cute saying her little "trick or treat" and earned extra candy at a couple houses because she is just so adorable :)
 Love my fairy girls!!
I like that Nate got so into dressing up this year! I put his costume together but he made it look awesome with the stripes and boots.
Cutest trick-or-treaters out there!! We wish Em and Ted and their girls could have been there too!
Left to Right: Blain, Benji, Dylan, Timmy, Gabriel, Ruby, Avenlea, Chloe, Zeyta
