It must be winter

Mitchell Homestead: I know it's winter when I don't have a lot to write about and I don't take as many pictures. This winter has been A TON milder than last year and we have at least one day a week where the weather is nice enough to play outside and not freeze immediately. We still have snow on the ground since the big snow on Christmas and a couple storms since but it gets pretty melty when the weather sits in the 40's. Here are a couple cute pictures and some fun little snippets.

Blain has been "feather hunting" on the warm days and since those feathers have been ending up all over the house I made him a jar to keep them in. Well, about a week ago a couple neighborhood dogs got in the pasture and killed our flock all except Siri. The feather hunting has been much more successful now :( but at least we made good use of it. I made Blain this hunting Indian headband which he has been wearing all day. Siri is lonely but getting lots of treats. We are still figuring out how we are going to replace our poor chickens, so for now we will focus on keeping her healthy and safe.

 

 Chloe making her first PB&J sandwich all by herself and creating a magic spell book just like Evie on Mike the Knight, a new little show they have found to watch during ipad time. Chloe loves to wear her hair like a ballerina in a "big bun", at least we found a way where she doesn't fight and squirm the whole time ;) I can't believe how grown up she looks in those pictures!

 

 We have been putting our grinder, slicer, and meat storage to good use this last little bit. We thawed and ground up about 8 pounds of beef which I made meatballs and hamburger patties out of. We are also going to slice up some deli style beef for chipped beef on toast and sandwiches tonight. I found really good meatball and hamburger recipes off of allrecipes.com so it makes those meals nice and easy.

 Play time with Daddy - I think his idea was to rest on the floor, but the ABC's had a different idea :)
